Wisconsin Injury & Hospitality Law

On March 6, 2003, Attorney Pasternak spoke at Milwaukee Area Technical College to discuss Wisconsin injury and hospitality law with students.  The two primary areas of focus were Wisconsin food illness cases and liability resulting from dangerous premises.  Frequently, students in the hospitality program will obtain jobs at hotels, restaurants,  bars and taverns as managers, chefs, etc.

Wisconsin food poisoning and contamination cases are primarily concerned with illnesses associated with e.coli (Escherichia coli) and other food illnesses & bacteria such as Campylobacter, Salmonella, Calicivirus, Norwalk, Shigella, Giardia lamblia, Hepatitis, and Cryptosporidia.   The Wisconsin Administrative Code's "Wisconsin Food Code" and Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 97 are the laws typically governing this area as referenced at the firm's Wisconsin Food Regulation Law page.

As to hazardous property and dangerous premises, these types of cases typically result from slips, trips & falls, building code violations, defective stairs & ramps and on occasion inadequate security resulting injury including criminal assaults.  In all such cases, personal injury lawyers and injury attorneys focus on proving liability by establishing the hotel, restaurant or bar's obligation or duty to protect the customer, its failure to do so and proof that this failure caused substantial injury to the customer.
